A spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department have said they have finally released a smart phone application that can be downloaded to android phones. The application, they said, is identical to one previously released for iPhones.
Those interested in downloading the free app are reported to be able to do so via Google Play. It can also be located by searching “Ventura Sheriff” or “VSCO”. After it has been downloaded the software allows users to view and access local crime maps. It can be used to locate information about persons currently in custody, to read press releases and to update themselves on current patrol events. Further, users can browse content within the software in order to learn more about the history of the department as well as to locate current directory information for stations and substations throughout the county.
Those wishing to be directly connected to the Ventura County Crime Stoppers can do so by accessing the application. One deputy said this can help people update themselves as to which individuals may be wanted on outstanding warrants.
The department believes that these types of software uses allow deputies to better connect with members of the public. It is unclear whether the software will include future updates which would allow for additional user features.
