Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Robert Arthur has been named as the county’s Deputy of the Year.
Arthur said he never believed he would embark down a law enforcement career path. In high school, he said, he often imagined he’d become a physical therapist. He reportedly graduated in 2000 and enrolled in a Santa Barbara college to study body motion and kinesiology. After college he accepted employment with a company that sells medical equipment but soon found the position to be mundane.
His father, he said, had worked at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department prior to retiring. This stayed in the back of his mind, and the eventual change in careers seemed natural. The fact that his twin brother had since joined the department had also served to spark his interest.
Arthur’s father said his son has always had a strong sense of right versus wrong. He has always treated people with dignity and respect and does not like seeing people being taken advantage of. His supervisor, Capt. Bruce Macedo said the 34-year old deputy does an “outstanding job” and describes him as being thoughtful and tenacious in his work.
Arthur lives in Camarillo with his wife, Julianne and their three small children.
