Three Ventura County Jail inmates have graduated from a jail-offered culinary program, VCStar.com reports. The program is made possible through a partnership between the jail and the Ventura Adult Continuing Education.
The graduates have earned certificates in food preparation and handling and they prepared zucchini bread, chocolate-covered strawberries and lemon poppy seed cake to commemorate their accomplishment.
Jail sources have confirmed that five additional inmates are enrolled in the next round of classes.
One of the inmates says he’s happy to have learned a skill and he hopes to be able to use his certificates to get a job once his sentence is up. That man, who has served a half dozen prison terms in his life, is hopeful that graduating from the culinary program will help him turn his life around.
Jail officials say all of the enrollees have been very excited to learn.
