A man who has been accused of stealing food from a local grocery store has been booked at the Ventura County Jail on felony robbery charges.
The incident happened in late-June, according to a report by the Ventura County Star, when now-defendant Michael Hanson entered the WinCo Foods store. Loss prevention officers had seen him removing items from the store earlier that day, police said, but Hanson was able to flee from the scene before he was caught.
According to investigators, Hanson came back to that same store several hours later, and once again, tried to leave the store with things he hadn’t paid for.
This time, the loss prevention officers stopped him; Hanson was determined to not go down without a fight and at one point, he struck an officer in the head with a one-gallon container.
Store employees ultimately prevailed and were able to detain the now-defendant until Ventura Police Department officers arrived on scene.
Hanson is being held on $105,000 bail bonds.
