Officials at the Ventura County Jail say they are detaining a man who has been arrested on charges of attempted kidnapping. Authorities say defendant Anthony Parish was seen last weekend hanging around a Main Street playground. The 36 year-old is said to have approached a 6 year-old girl and asked her to take a walk with him. When he tried to grab her arm she screamed and fought back. She ran to locate her father and informed him as to what had happened.
Parish was reportedly detained by security guards from a nearby shopping center. The police department was called and he was arrested without further incident. Jail officials say he is scheduled to be arraigned later this week. Ventura Police Department officers are reminding parents to not leave their children unattended. If you or someone you know might have information pertaining to other attempted kidnappings that the defendant may have been involved in, you are asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.
Parish’s bail information was not immediately available but it is suspected to have been set in excess of $150,000 due to the nature of the crime. Law enforcement personnel have not commented as to whether the defendant has a prior history of arrest although it is not believed he is a registered sex offender.
The cost to purchase bail bonds in Ventura County will be 10% of the total bail amount. Payment plans may be available to those who have good credit. The bondsman would also likely require collateral be posted to secure the bond due to the serious nature of the charges.
