A spokesperson for the Simi Valley Police Department have confirmed that an attempted murder suspect has been captured and booked into the Ventura County Jail.
Officers say it all started last Friday night when the suspect was seen driving through area streets. Police tried to pull the man over, they said, but when he stopped on the side of the road he hopped out of his car and made a run for it.
Residents were then told to stay in side and not leave their homes.
The search lasted for hours, but Herbert Alvarenga was eventually captured in the garage of Cheam Avenue home. He had entered the structure through an unlocked door. Officers say this is why homeowners are advised to make sure their residences are locked and secured at all times.
Alvarenga has since been booked into the Ventura County Jail where he is being held on $5 million dollar bail bonds. He is being held on a long list of charges; he is scheduled to appear in court this week.
