The Ventura Police Department said they have arrested 27 year-old Richard Christensen due to his participation in a Dec. 2 theft from an unlocked vehicle. Officers have said that Christensen first approached a vehicle on Saratoga Ave., stole items and fled the scene. He is then reported to have entered another unlocked vehicle several blocks later to commit a similar crime. Christensen was identified through the help of video surveillance tapes.
Investigating officers spotted the defendant the following day, saying they recognized him due to having seen the tapes. He was found to be in possession of the stolen property. Officers also found drugs on his person. Christensen was booked into the Ventura County Jail and charged with theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also found to have an active warrant.
The warrant relates to a September arrest in which Christensen was charged with felony assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and misdemeanor petty theft. The defendant is currently being held without bail. His is scheduled to appear before a judge on Dec. 13.
The Ventura Police Department wants to remind residents to always lock their vehicles, homes, garages and windows as a preventative measure against becoming a victim of theft.
