A spokesperson for the Simi Valley Police Department has confirmed the department will be holding a prescription drug drop-off event this weekend. The event will take place at the 3901 Alamo St. station and will run between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There is no cost to participate.
Anyone who has old, expired or unwanted prescription pills or syrups is invited to bring those items to the station. Simi Valley Police Department officials are requesting that pills be emptied into a clear plastic bag. Gel medications or liquid cough suppressants should be left in their original containers.
Persons who are in possession of illegal drugs and wish to turn them in will also be able to do so- no questions asked. Those who have unwanted items but are unable to attend the event can still participate. Officers have reportedly said there is a 24-hour drop box in their lobby that is available 24-hours a day.
These types of events are held several time a year, they said. Authorities have not indicates how many items were surrendered during the last drug drop-off. Police say it is wise to dispose of old, unwanted or expired medications in order to keep them out of the hands of children. It also helps prevent the potential misuse of these items.
