Representatives from the Camarillo Police Department are warning residents to keep their eyes peeled for suspicious activity, noting that mail thieves have been raiding mailboxes in hopes of running off with valuables, credit card applications and holiday gifts.
If you are expecting a package, officers recommend you make arrangements to have it signed for or suggest having it delivered to your place of work– instead of letting the mailman leave it on your porch.
Moorpark Police are reporting similar problems, saying that they received 18 reports of mail thefts last weekend alone.
There has been a growing tend of both business and residential mailbox thefts in the past several weeks, they said, and that trend may very well continue throughout the holiday season.
Police have also begun to suggest that if someone is mailing off a payment, that envelope should be taken to the post office to ensure it doesn’t wind up in the wrong hands.
