School is nearly back in session and the Camarillo Police Department is offering safety tips to parents, children and motorists.
Drivers are reminded to slow down when they are traveling through school zones, especially in the early morning and after school hours, when children are arriving and departing from their classes.
Kids who will be riding their bikes to and from school are reminded they need to wear safety helmets. Those who are under the age of 18 who don’t wear a helmet could be cited– the fines are in excess of $100, according to a report by the Camarillo Acorn.
Officers will be paying close attention to motorists who are driving in school zones and will ticket drivers who are not obeying the rules. Police are also asking drivers to be extra diligent in keeping their eyes peeled for children on bikes, skateboards and walking along neighborhood streets.
Safety, the said, is everyone’s responsibility.
