A robbery suspect has been apprehended by members of the Camarillo Police Department. Officers said that 18 year-old Austin Jacquem was taken into custody late lat week. Investigators said Jacquem is the prime suspect in multiple armed robberies that took place at a local shopping center the day before he was taken into custody.
Police arrested him at his home. At the time of the arrest officers found a fake handgun, a ski mask, and property that had reportedly been stolen from the scene of one of the crimes. Witnesses said a male matching Jacquem’s description executed several armed robberies outside a local gym. Police believe additional people may have been victimized but have not yet come forward.
Jacquem was cuffed and transported to the Ventura County Jail. His bail has been set at $505,000, meaning the cost for to hire a Ventura bondsman would be $50,500, or 10%. In addition to paying the bondsman’s fee the person who cosigns the necessary paperwork would also be required to post collateral. As long as the defendant makes all of his required court appearances the collateral would be refunded to the person who posted it at the end of the case. On the other hand, the fee that is paid to the bondsman is non refundable regardless as to the case’s outcome.
If the family is unable to pay the full amount up front they might be eligible for a bail bonds payment plan if there is a cosigner who has good credit.
Jacquem is scheduled to be arraigned later this week. It is unclear whether he will enter a not guilty or guilty plea at the time he appears before the judge. The matter is ongoing.
