A spokesperson for the Moorpark Police Department said they have arrested and charged a local man for practicing dentistry without a license. William Escobar was taken into custody late last month and was booked into the Ventura County Jail. His bail was set at $250,000.
A department spokesperson said Escobar’s illegal operation was brought to their attention in November after a resident filed a complaint alleging they had been threatened for not paying a bill. After that time a joint investigation was reportedly launched by the Moorpark Police Department Investigations Unit and the California Dental Board.
A search warrant of Escobar’s home was executed on Dec. 19. An officer at the scene reported finding an elaborate illegal dental operation had been running out of Escobar’s residence. A dental chair, false teeth, anesthetic drugs and orthodontic tools were confiscated as evidence. It is believed that Escobar had seen numerous patients, minor children included.
Police say he is not licensed to practice dentistry anywhere in the US. In addition to being charged with practicing dentistry without a license he also faces misdemeanor charges pertaining to the possession of needles and for furnishing dangerous drugs to his patients.
The Moorpark Police Department is asking anyone who might have additional information to contact the Ventura County Crime Stoppers.
