My friend was arrested and booked at the Ventura County Jail a few hours ago and she’s trying to post her own bail bonds (I don’t have the means to help her.) She has a steady job but every bondsman she’s talked to says she’s not eligible to post her own bail bonds because she’s been arrested for failure to appear. Why is it so much harder to post bail bonds when someone is arrested on this charge?
This is actually a very common challenge. The most important thing a defendant needs to do when they’ve been arrested, and when they have been released on bail bonds, is to go to court when they are supposed to and finish their case. When someone is arrested on failure to appear (FTA) charges they already have a documented history of not going to court when they are supposed to. This makes it nearly impossible for someone who is arrested on FTA charges to co-sign for their own bail bonds.
